    The Interesting Facts Thread

Facts, I love them! I think it stems from being a children and having a set of Encyclopedias in my room, you know the old school type where a salesman came round and sold them to your parents!

Anyway, thought i'd be entertaining/good reading to share some facts.

Every year 12 billion eggs are consumed in the UK, however this is increasing yearly. That is 185 per person.

    Go!

    Nice one, Up!

On March 30, 1867, the United States reached an agreement to purchase Alaska from Russia for a price of $7.2 million. The Treaty with Russia was negotiated and signed by Secretary of State William Seward and Russian Minister to the United States Edouard de Stoeckl.

    Morning everyone, fact number two:

Adolf Hitler had 2 nephews in WW2, one fought the Russians on the eastern front, the other, William Hitler, was in the US navy and fought the Japanese.

Dolphins and other sea-dwelling mammals can obtain water from their food and by producing it internally from the metabolic breakdown of food. Although some marine mammals are known to drink seawater at least on occasion, it is not well established that they routinely do so.

Been away for a few days but normal service has resumed :)

As a cat lover, I was surprised by this one:

A cat's tail contains nearly 10 percent of all the bones in its body.

Hey everyone, end of week fact:

If you were to remove all of the empty space from the atoms that make up every human on earth, the enitre population could fit into an apple.

    Would be very snug!

A fact I got from watching War Dogs the other night:

The US military spent $4.5 billion dollars a year on their air conditioning during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Absolutely mental.

A bit of spare time today and found this gem which provides some context as to how old our planet is.

In the history of the Earth, we're closer to Tyrannosaurus rex than T. rex is to Stegosaurus.

    Thought I'd revive this thread.

As a keen golfer throughout my teenage years and into adulthood, I can't put into words how impressive this is by Tiger Woods:

From 2002-05, Woods had 1,540 putts from 3 feet and in on the PGA Tour. He only missed three of them.

Whilst waiting for the NY open, my mind somehow drifted to the Birthday Paradox. I have no idea why or how but it did.

Anyway, on face value it's pretty crazy (to my mind) you only need 23 people in a room to have a 50/50 chance of 2 people having the same birthday.

    This article covers it nicely.
