    To iPhone or to Samsung?

In my younger years as my parents will attest, I was mobile phone mad! My dad to this day will call me Johnny Mob.

My contract is due up in a few weeks and I currently have a Samsung S7 Edge after spending 6 years with multiple iPhones. The S8 looks a very snazzy bit of kit but can't help be drawn to the new iPhone. And to my surprise I think I actually prefer the 8+ compared to the upcoming iPhone X. Not sure I like the lack of home button and the whole glass display. The S8 makes it look a little nicer somehow.

So, do I stick with Android or return to the iPhone fold?! Decisions, decisions!

I agree that I would prefer the 8 to the X. I can't get excited about face recognition.

The 8 shares a lot of the features of the X but at a lower price. I started off with the iPhone 3G and upgraded every 2 years until my current iPhone 6 - which I have had for over 2 years. So at the moment I pay very little for my contract and I am happy with the 6.

It annoys me as to how much you have to pay for increased memory with Apple. I love the fact that you can upgrade the memory on Android devices so easily.

I guess it comes down to which platform supports your mobile trading better.

I think what bugs me the most is the telco providers here in Australia take the absolute mickey with their plans. For the same plan this year, you can get triple the data that the same plan offered this time last year which makes me think I'll just buy the phone outright and go to a pay by month and enjoy the better data it provides.

I've had my iPhone 8+ for nearly 2 weeks and I'll be returning it tomorrow. I'll be going to the Samsung S8 as I just haven't got on with the ergonomics of the iPhone. I've found it too heavy and too wide. And surprisingly, I think I prefer the Android software and the extra creativity it allows compared to Apple.

Did you try out the standard iPhone 8 as well?

    Hi Andrew,

I had a quick play with it in the store but felt the screen size was too limiting at 4.5".

I've picked up the S8 and the form factor feels perfect. It's so light compared to the 8+ it almost feels like a toy phone. The fingerprint sensor at the back isn't the best placement but the facial recognition makes it very easy.

Anyone seen this ad rolling round?

If the iPhone ran on android software I'd be a buyer but just love the freedom of the android software and the S8+ is a pretty stellar phone.

The new Samsung S9 and S9+ leaving me very uninspired to change from my S8. Talk about minimalist update! I'll wait until I see it in the shops before final verdict, the camera is supposed to be very cool.

Well, a good news sort of day today. My current contract was due and I had a look at the S9+. I've managed to get a cheaper deal, double the data and the new S9+ with the wireless charger to boot. Pretty pleased with that deal.

I've only had a quick play but the + is a nice change from the standard variant and the camera does look pretty impressive.

3 new iPhones to be announced next week....

I'm hoping the iPad Pro gets updated and gets the iPhone X treatment with edge to edge display.

Not sure if you've seen the new Note 9 form Samsung. I'm a huge Apple fan and have considered a few times to give my iPhone X up for the new Note. Huge amount of ram inside with huge display and S Pen

My wife just picked up the iPhone X S Max and have to say, very impressed. Same size as my Samsung S9+ but just looks higher quality. Although, it should be at nearly double the price.

I'll wait and see what the S10 brings before deciding I think.
