Hi all,

As it's pretty quiet I thought I'd jot down some thoughts on the above title. A have a small group of friends and they all know what I do for a living but when in new social situations and the inevitable 'job' topic comes up, I often wander what to answer. I try and keep it relatively light and will say I trade currencies for a living. I enjoy sharing my passion and explaining what it is I do and how but the conversation will always drift towards how much I earn.

I've yet to find a diplomatic way of saying mind your own business! Any thoughts?

On the topic of trading full time, I have to say I've immensely enjoyed it since doing it full time from February this year. It was sooner than I'd have liked but given the reality of continuing in a 60-70 hour week job selling cars or giving trading my full attention it seemed a plausible path to take. I cannot think of any other job I'd rather be doing and I genuinely don't see it as 'work'. These next 12-18 months are going to be critical to my long term success and I'm extremely eager to see how it all plays out.

I still have aspirations of making this forum a very active hub for traders too....just need to figure out how to get members posting! I want to make it a sort of lifestyle/trading area where people can interact/socialise and learn. Any ideas are welcome...

Hi John

Why don't you tell them that you make enough money to pay your bills but that you plow any surplus back into your trading fund.

Hi Andrew,

Yep, sounds useful and is 100% true. I dislike the nature of sharing numbers. I wouldn't imagine asking someone their salary yet with trading people jump right into it.

Thought I'd bump this given it's been nearly a year since the original post.

I wanted to touch on a development since I received my new car. In Queensland you're allowed to be fairly creative with plates and can use all letters without the need for any numbers. My plate reads FOREX. I wanted a little nod to my profession and to make it personal to me.

I've had quite a few people mention it and comment trading must be going well etc which is nice but I also remind them they haven't seen the years of work and struggle to get to the position to get a nice car. It's a good conversation starter anyway.
